What time does Registration open on the day?

Registration will be open from 8.30 am. The Run will commence at approx.. 9.00 am in four stages and the Walk will commence at approx.. 9.30 am.

Do I need to bring my number with me on the day?

Yes please if you are taking part in the Run and Walk, as this will have been sent to you in the post prior to the day.

   Can I bring my dog?

You can bring your dog if you are taking part in the Walk, however, they must be kept on leads and under control at all times. Unfortunately, if you are taking part in the Run – no dogs are allowed.

Will parking be available at the start and finish?

Parking will be available at both the start and finish. There is limited parking at the Canal Basin (further information on charges etc can be found in the Event Information section of this website). You should refrain from parking on Canal Hill as this will cause problems and be mindful of people when you are parking on housing estates. There will be plenty of parking at the Merriemeade around the back through the usual car park in the field behind. Again, please refrain from parking along the road and also in the usual car park as this will cause problems.

Am I guaranteed a place on the bus?

Places on the bus cannot be guaranteed for anyone and are available on a limited basis. Please note that the transport is being provided for free by Kingdoms, they must have a limit on the number of buses that be running, however last year there were plenty of spaces available for those that requested transport

Will there be places along the route where my family can come and cheer me on?

Yes there will! There are plenty of bridges along the route, some of which are really good places to stop and watch the Runners/Walkers go by. The bridges that we would recommend are:- Manley Bridge, the car park on the left just before you get to Tiverton Road Bridge and Greenway Bridge. Car parking is at or near all of these places.

What can I do with my bag if I am Running?

We have a bag drop off point at the Basin near the Registration Desk and then all bags will be carefully transported to the Merriemeade by one of our Committee Members and will be ready for you to collect at the Bag Collection Point in the Merriemeade Garden.

What time is the event likely to finish?

There will be a BBQ at the Merriemeade along with a live band, facepainting, bouncy castle (weather permitting) and some stalls and other entertainment for you to enjoy after the Walk/Run. This will be finishing at approx.. 3.00 pm when the Bus will come to collect anyone who has opted to go on it. The bus may have to carry out more than one trip depending on the number of people who have requested it before the day. People waiting for the bus can obviously stay at the Merriemeade whilst they are waiting.

Will there be refreshments along the route?

Yes. We will have 3 refreshment stations along the route where water and squash will be available and also biscuits and sweets. There will also be a final refreshment station at the end of the Walk/Run.

Will there be toilets along the route?

No. There are toilets at the Canal Basin and also at the Merriemeade but there will be no toilets located along the route. Please ensure that you use the toilets before you set off, particularly young children!

   How far is the Walk/Run?

It is a 10k Walk/Run which is approx.. 6.2 miles.

   Can I participate in a wheelchair/mobility scooter?

You will be able to participate in the Walk. However, due to the narrow towpath, unfortunately we cannot allow wheelchairs or mobility scooters to go with the Runners.

What about pushchairs – can these be taken?

Yes, again, pushchairs are fine in the Walk, but will not be suitable for the Run.

How old do I have to be to be able to participate in the Run?

You must be 12 years of age or older to participate in the Run and you must be accompanied by an Adult unless you are 16 or over.

Is there an age limit for the Walk?

No – you can participate in the Walk from any age!!!

Will the event go ahead if it is raining?

Yes it will!! The Walk and Run will continue whatever the weather!! Obviously we will have to consider what entertainment we will be able to provide at the Merriemeade, this may have to be reduced slightly if it is raining – however there will definitely still be a BBQ and a live band performing.

Can I run with my friend(s) even if we are of different ability?

Yes, you can run with your friend(s) as long as you complete the ‘Runners to be Grouped with Form’ when you register manually or if you prefer to register online, then make sure you register together. The best way to do this is to register yourself as the main entrant and then add your friends to your registration by clicking on the ‘add another person’ button. If you wish to all register separately online, but run together, then you can always send Joy Morley a quick e-mail to advise her of the names of the people that wish to run together. This will need to be done ASAP after registration. Joy’s contact details are on the website under Contacts.

How do I sign up my children for the event?

This year we have added a Junior Walk event. This is the same event but allows you to pay a junior price for participants aged 12-16 years. The registration must be completed by a responsible adult, and on the day, participants aged 12-16 years must be supervised by an adult during the duration of the event. You may wish to register the junior participant/s on the day of the event, however please be aware that spaces are limited.

If I am registering as a school / club?

If you are applying by paper form then one form per entrant is required. Should you be walking/running as a group or team please ensure you enter your team name or you cannot be guaranteed the same start time. Please feel free to photocopy this form for your friends and family, or download a copy from our downloads page. If you are registering online then all you need to do is select ‘add another person’ at the end of your registration. Team numbers are unlimited so your team size can be as big or small as you wish.

Can children ride their bikes or scooters?

Scooters are fine – especially for young children. Bikes are not recommended for Health and Safety reasons.

What if I cannot make it on day, can I send a substitute?

If you have registered and then are unable to attend but wish to send a substitute, this is fine but we would ask for the details of the substitute for our records. They would not have to register again, they could simply take your place and we would ask that you pass any information you have over to them.

   Can t-shirts be purchased beforehand?

If when you register either online or manually, you select that you want a t-shirt or a running vest then these will be sent to you along with your number. We hope to have additional stock of t-shirts with us on the day if you decide that you would rather wait and purchase them then. Running vests will not be available to purchase on the day.
